Wanderparadies Wildbachklamm: Eine 200 Meter lange Wildwasserschlucht im Berchtesgadener Land
Berchtesgaden National Park

A visit to the Berchtesgaden National Park– that means letting 'pure nature' wash over you and getting some fascinating insights into an ecological paradise. The park is one of the oldest nature reserves in the Alps and part of UNESCO's Berchtesgadener Land Biosphere Reserve. Those who are en route here, and are prepared to experience this with all their senses, will be spellbound by the high mountains, the green alpine pastures, the deep valleys and the crystal-clear mountain rivers in the reserve. At approx. 21,000 hectares, the conservation area is a piece of unadulterated mountain nature on which Man does not encroach. Thus a unique variety of flora and fauna has been able to reestablish itself.

Visible from afar, the Watzmann...

...sits enthroned above it all; with its height of 2,713 metres and its distinctive shape, it is the landmark of Berchtesgaden. Hikers and climbers can go on tours at all levels of difficulty on the Watzmann massif, from easy walks – for example on the Grünstein – to high-altitude mountain tours. At the foot of the Watzmann lies the Königssee (www.berchtesgaden.de/koenigssee), which extends like a beautiful fjord between steeply towering rock faces. The Königssee can only be explored on the water – with a pleasure boat.

Watzmann-Frau und Watzmann-Kinder

The so-called Steinerne Meer ('Rocky Sea') a karst plateau, extends between the Watzmann, the Königssee...

...and the Hochkönig. It is the largest massif in the Berchtesgaden Alps and has its resemblance to a petrified sea of undulating waves to thank for its name. Experienced mountain hikers in particular appreciate the challenges in this area.
