Holidays on the water in Bavaria? Any time! Although it has no coastline of its own, Bavaria is a dream destination for all those who appreciate the effect of time spent out on the water, which is just as relaxing as it can be rejuvenating. We've made a little list for you here of exactly where your customers can satisfy that 'longing for lakes'.
Alpsee and Schwansee
These two lakes in the Allgäu have close connections with one of the best known sights in the whole of Germany, Neuschwanstein Castle. The best idea is to combine this fairy tale castle and the lakes into a single visit. There are a great many possibilities in terms of sport and relaxation awaiting your customers at the Alpsee, which is the larger of the two. Having said that, the Schwansee, hidden away in a nature reserve, is a really special discovery. And you can walk round it in less than an hour.

Lake Constance
Lake Constance is already impressive enough when you look at the data and statistics that surround it: it's Germany's largest lake, enclosed by 273 kilometres of shoreline, and it goes down to a depth of 254 metres. Yet this lake, which is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the country, captivates visitors above all by its extraordinarily varied character: many beautiful towns such as Lindau, cultural wealth, and an abundance of tourist attractions and activities for the whole family.

The Chiemsee
Bavaria's largest lake is in the picturesque foothills of the Alps, and it's not just ideal for bathing. On the contrary, your customers will be spoilt for choice: water sports on the lake, cycling or walking tours on its green shores, or a leisurely boat trip to the famous Chiemsee islands – the 'Bavarian Sea' with its mountain panorama fascinates everyone. And it does so at all times of the year.

The Eibsee
The Eibsee (Yew Lake) is near Garmisch-Partenkirchen, at the foot of Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze, 1,000 metres above sea level. A genuine highlight for nature lovers! Its crystal-clear water with that greenish shimmer invites your customers to go for a refreshing swim in the summer and undertake sporting activities on the water. Safe to walk on the whole year round, and also suitable for families, is the thalweg – the line of lowest elevation within the valley – , on which you can go round the lake in about two hours.

The Königssee
The way the steep rock faces right on the shores of the Königssee rise up skyward is impressive, and that is why this elongated lake, cut into the mountains like a fjord, can only be visited by boat. A boat trip on the Königssee is a great experience, and it can be undertaken the whole year round. Where the boat stops, your customers can enjoy a drink in quaint inns, discover historical chapels or set off on hikes into the surrounding Berchtesgaden National Park.

The Upper Palatinate Lake District
If your customers like holidaying on the water, they'll love the Upper Palatinate Lake District! This region offers the very best conditions for active holidays by and on the water, and even sandy beaches for relaxing moments into the bargain. The interplay of numerous lakes both large and small, picturesque river courses and original landscape make this one of Bavaria's most varied holiday regions.

Starnberger See and Ammersee
The Starnberger See and the Ammersee are part of a region also referred to as the country of five lakes (because it also includes the Wörthsee, the Pilsensee and the Wesslinger See.) Its location in the foothills of the Alps is bewitchingly beautiful – yet Munich, the capital, is only a stone's throw away. The Starnberger See and the Ammersee have everything to offer that the heart could desire: a magnificent panorama of the Alps on the horizon, a perfect infrastructure for boat trips, boat tours and water skiing, but also history, cultural highlights and the most excellent possibilities for stopping in for a bite to eat and a drink, from quaint and rustic to in and trendy.
